This term RPG "role playing game". i find it quite innadequate. I mean when you play a game, any game, arent you always playing a role?

Hehehe, i have given it thought more than once ^_^ If you think about it, all non-sport games, not only videogames, but kid games (like playing policemen and thiefs
Thing is that rpg videogames are called that way because of being a conversion into videogame of the pen&paper rpgs (like D&D). Basically they use the same combat system... that's why games like FFs, which give you so little freedom on how to play the plot, are still technically rpgs :D
So rpgs are just that, nowadays... combat systems :P sucks
The nice thing is that as time passes and technologies keep on improving, you get more and more freedom in RPGs. One i liked quite a lot was Legend of mana. the hero was a boy or a girl, the plot was going a bit where you wanted it to go, battles were happening in real time, you could craft your own spells and forge your own weapons it was neat~
And about Role playing, i wonder. if you think about it, plane games, "shoot-them-up" as they call them. In those you play the role of a pilot. so technically, you're role-playing --> role playing game?
Oh yeah, i remember that game, never got into it, though. Shukie's a great fan of that game, in any case ^_-
In any case, one of the rpgs that gives you more freedom is Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR), 1 and 2, which i highly advice you if you can deal with PC rpgs... and with starwars stuff :D you can be evil or not, you can exert influence on your party mates or not, even have romantic relationships with them... lots of freedom ^_^
